Peanut and the Lost Puppies of Clover Hill

In the rolling green countryside of the Marble Kingdom stood a peaceful little village called Clover Hill, famous for flower meadows, warm bakeries, and friendly animals.

And living in the middle of the village was the happiest marble anyone had ever met.

His name was Peanut.

Peanut was a cheerful marble with warm brown, caramel, cream, and golden swirls flowing across his shell like the colours of a playful puppy. He loved everyone, wagged constantly despite technically not having a tail, and was always surrounded by dogs wherever he travelled.

Big dogs.

Small dogs.

Fluffy dogs.

Even grumpy old dogs who disliked everybody somehow liked Peanut.

Bernard the talking dog found this deeply suspicious.

“No marble should naturally attract THIS many dogs,” he muttered.

One bright spring morning, Jack Mitchell, Imogen, Lenny, and Bernard arrived at Clover Hill for the annual Friendship Fair, where marbles and animals from across the kingdom gathered for games, music, and giant picnic feasts.

Peanut greeted them warmly while three tiny puppies bounced around his feet chasing butterflies.

“This is my favourite day of the year!” he smiled.

But suddenly panic erupted in the village square.

Several puppies had vanished from the fairgrounds.

Tiny paw prints led toward the old Clover Woods beyond the hills.

And strange howling sounds echoed through the trees.

Peanut immediately looked worried.

“The puppies would never wander off alone.”

Bernard sniffed the paw prints carefully.

“Something frightened them.”

Without hesitation Peanut led the team into Clover Woods beneath the swaying trees and drifting mist.

The forest felt strangely quiet.

Birdsong had stopped.

Branches creaked overhead.

And every now and then distant barking echoed through the woods.

Then suddenly—

A huge shadow darted between the trees.

The group froze.

Out stepped a gigantic black dog with glowing yellow eyes and tangled fur.

Bernard nearly fainted.

“The forest has demon dogs now?”

But Peanut calmly rolled forward.

“It’s alright,” he whispered softly.

The giant dog slowly lowered its head.

Its name was Bramble.

Long ago Bramble had protected Clover Woods, but after storms destroyed parts of the forest, villagers began fearing him because of his frightening appearance.

Now he lived alone deep in the woods.

“The missing puppies followed him,” said Peanut gently. “But not because he kidnapped them.”

The puppies thought Bramble looked lonely.

Deep inside the forest they soon discovered the missing pups playing happily beside Bramble’s hidden woodland shelter.

But before anyone could relax, the ground suddenly trembled violently.

CRAAAAAAACK!

A huge landslide crashed down from the nearby hills after days of heavy rain.

Trees toppled.

Mud surged through the forest.

And the woodland river burst its banks.

The puppies became trapped on the far side of the flooding stream.

“We need to move NOW!” shouted Lenny.

Working together, Jack, Imogen, Bernard, Peanut, and Bramble raced through the storm trying to rescue the frightened puppies before the flooding destroyed the woodland paths.

Peanut remained calm the entire time, encouraging the puppies while Bramble used his enormous strength to clear fallen trees blocking the escape route.

At one point Bernard ended up stuck halfway up a tree shouting:

“I WAS NOT BUILT FOR MOUNTAIN RESCUES!”

Then disaster struck.

A giant tree crashed across the final bridge leading out of the forest.

The flooding river surged beneath it dangerously.

Without hesitation Bramble stepped forward and held the collapsing tree steady with all his strength while Peanut guided the puppies safely across one by one.

The giant dog struggled against the rushing water.

“Bramble!” cried Peanut.

Finally Jack and Bernard helped pull Bramble safely to the riverbank just seconds before the bridge washed away completely.

By nightfall the storm passed and the forest became calm once again.

Back at Clover Hill, the villagers welcomed the rescued puppies home with enormous celebrations, lanterns, and mountains of food.

But the biggest surprise came when the villagers realised Bramble had never been dangerous at all.

He had only been lonely.

From that day forward Bramble became the official guardian dog of Clover Woods once again.

And Peanut visited him every single day.

That evening the Friendship Fair resumed beneath glowing lanterns while puppies chased each other through the grass and musicians played beside the village square.

Peanut smiled happily at Jack.

“Sometimes,” he said softly, “the friendliest hearts are hidden behind the scariest faces.”

Bernard looked thoughtfully at Bramble sharing sausages with the puppies.

“Fair point,” he admitted. “Though I still prefer less terrifying introductions.”
