Haunted Ghost and the Whispering Manor

On the lonely cliffs overlooking the dark northern seas of the Marble Kingdom stood a crumbling old mansion known as Whispering Manor.
Nobody visited it anymore.
Windows creaked in the wind.
Strange lights flickered at midnight.
And eerie whispers floated through the empty halls after dark.
Most marbles believed the manor was haunted.
And they were absolutely correct.
Because living inside Whispering Manor was the mysterious marble known as Haunted Ghost.
Haunted Ghost was pale silver and smoky white with swirling shadows drifting endlessly beneath his glass shell. His glowing blue eyes shimmered like moonlight, and whenever he rolled, cold mist floated behind him.
He could vanish into fog without warning.
He could float silently through dark rooms.
And he loved scaring visitors far more than he probably should have.
One cold evening at Bablock Hythe, Jack Mitchell and Bernard the talking dog received a strange invitation delivered by a black raven.
The message read:
“PLEASE COME TO WHISPERING MANOR IMMEDIATELY. SOMETHING FAR WORSE THAN GHOSTS HAS ARRIVED.”
Bernard looked horrified immediately.
“There are levels of worse than ghosts?”
Naturally the team travelled north beneath stormy skies until the towering silhouette of Whispering Manor appeared above the cliffs.
Lightning flashed behind the mansion.
The giant front gates slowly creaked open by themselves.
“I dislike this already,” Bernard whispered.
Inside, candles floated mysteriously through the corridors while old portraits seemed to watch them from the walls.
Suddenly—
BOOOOOOO!
A ghostly figure burst through the ceiling.
Bernard screamed and jumped directly into a suit of armour.
Haunted Ghost floated down laughing loudly.
“I never get tired of that.”
But despite his usual tricks, Haunted Ghost looked genuinely worried.
He explained that something ancient had awakened beneath the manor.
For centuries Whispering Manor had secretly protected the Spirit Mirror, a magical object separating the world of marbles from the Shadow Realm.
But recently the mirror had begun cracking.
Now strange shadow creatures were slipping into the manor after midnight.
“Last night,” Haunted Ghost whispered dramatically, “one tried to eat my curtains.”
“That is admittedly concerning,” said Jack.
Deep beneath the mansion, hidden below ancient staircases and dusty tunnels, stood the Chamber of Mirrors where the enormous Spirit Mirror glowed weakly with silver light.
Dark cracks spread across its surface.
And from inside the mirror came eerie scratching noises.
Then suddenly—
CRAAAAACK!
A shadowy claw burst through the mirror.
Soon dozens of smoky creatures crawled into the chamber with glowing eyes and whispering voices.
The Shadow Crawlers.
They slithered across the walls and ceilings, extinguishing candles wherever they passed.
Bernard hid behind Haunted Ghost immediately.
“You’re the ghost expert!”
Haunted Ghost looked nervous himself.
“These things aren’t ghosts.”
The Shadow Crawlers fed on fear and darkness. The more frightened everyone became, the stronger the creatures grew.
Worse still, the cracked Spirit Mirror continued weakening every minute.
“If the mirror shatters completely,” warned Imogen, “the entire Shadow Realm could spill into the Marble Kingdom.”
The creatures surged forward.
Jack and Lenny used lantern crystals to push them back while Imogen’s glowing powers lit the dark chamber.
Meanwhile Haunted Ghost disappeared silently into the shadows.
For a moment nobody knew where he had gone.
Then suddenly the entire manor shook.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!
All the candles in Whispering Manor burst into brilliant blue flame at once.
Haunted Ghost reappeared floating high above the mirror chamber surrounded by glowing ghostly mist.
“I may enjoy haunting people,” he declared dramatically, “but this manor belongs to ME.”
Using his strange ghost powers, Haunted Ghost summoned ancient spirit energy hidden within the mansion walls. Thousands of glowing blue lights swirled through the chamber, forcing the Shadow Crawlers backwards toward the mirror.
But the mirror itself was still unstable.
Only one thing could repair it.
A true memory of courage.
Haunted Ghost slowly floated toward the cracked mirror holding an old silver locket.
“For years,” he said quietly, “I hid here frightening others because I was afraid myself.”
The glowing locket opened, releasing a brilliant silver memory light into the Spirit Mirror.
Instantly the cracks began healing.
The Shadow Crawlers screamed as the portal sealed shut once again.
WHOOSHHHH!
The chamber fell silent.
The mirror glowed peacefully beneath the flickering candles.
Whispering Manor had been saved.
Outside, the storm clouds cleared as moonlight spread across the cliffs once more.
The marbles of nearby villages soon discovered that Haunted Ghost was not evil at all.
In fact, he had secretly protected the northern cliffs for years.
Although…
he still enjoyed frightening tourists occasionally.
Before Jack left, Haunted Ghost handed him a tiny glowing lantern made from silver crystal.
“What does it do?” asked Jack.
Haunted Ghost smiled mysteriously.
“It shines brightest whenever bravery is needed.”
Bernard carefully held the lantern at arm’s length.
“As long as nothing crawls out of it, I approve.”
