Green Zomby and the Midnight Swamp

Deep within the darkest marshlands of the Marble Kingdom stood a creepy place known as Shadow Bog Swamp.
The trees twisted into strange shapes.
Green mist floated above the muddy water.
And odd bubbling sounds echoed through the fog every single night.
Most marbles avoided the swamp completely.
Because something mysterious lived there.
His name was Green Zomby.
Green Zomby looked terrifying at first glance. His marble shell swirled with eerie shades of glowing green, black, slime yellow, and dark swamp colours that flickered strangely in the moonlight. One side of his face looked cracked like ancient stone, and his glowing green eyes often startled travellers wandering too close to the swamp.
Rumours about him spread everywhere.
Some claimed he only appeared at midnight.
Others believed he could speak to ghosts.
Bernard the talking dog had heard even stranger stories.
“I heard he once frightened an entire army just by sneezing,” Bernard whispered nervously.
One stormy evening, strange green lights began appearing around Bablock Hythe. Boats drifted through thick green fog, mysterious footprints appeared beside the river, and several villagers claimed they heard creepy groaning noises outside their homes.
Naturally panic spread immediately.
“It’s the swamp spirits!” cried one marble.
“It’s cursed!” shouted another.
But Jack Mitchell was not convinced.
“Let’s investigate properly,” he said.
So Jack, Imogen, Lenny, and Bernard travelled toward Shadow Bog Swamp beneath the glowing moonlight.
The deeper they entered the swamp, the stranger everything became.
Croaking creatures echoed through the mist.
Glowing insects buzzed overhead.
And giant bubbles rose slowly from the black water.
Suddenly—
GRRROOOOOAAANNN.
A tall shadow emerged through the fog.
Bernard jumped behind Jack instantly.
Green Zomby slowly rolled forward surrounded by glowing green mist.
“Who dares enter my swamp?” he boomed dramatically.
Jack blinked.
“You practise that voice, don’t you?”
Green Zomby grinned sheepishly.
“A little.”
To everyone’s surprise, Green Zomby was actually rather friendly.
He explained that the swamp’s mysterious fog was caused by ancient Glow Moss growing beneath the water. Normally the swamp remained peaceful, but something had disturbed the underground caverns below Shadow Bog.
Now dangerous gas bubbles were leaking into the air, creating glowing fog and frightening the nearby villages.
“Worse,” added Green Zomby, “something is waking beneath the swamp.”
Right on cue, the ground suddenly shook violently.
BOOOOOSH!
A gigantic muddy creature burst from the water.
The Swamp Golem.
The enormous creature was made entirely from swamp mud, tangled roots, moss, and glowing green slime. It roared loudly while smashing trees aside with giant muddy fists.
“That,” sighed Green Zomby, “is the problem.”
Apparently the Swamp Golem had slept beneath the bog for hundreds of years until the leaking gas bubbles accidentally awakened it.
Now it stomped angrily through the swamp searching for the lost Swamp Crystal, a magical stone that once kept the marshlands balanced.
“If the crystal isn’t returned soon,” warned Green Zomby, “the whole swamp could sink into chaos.”
The team followed the creature’s trail deep into the swamp caves beneath Shadow Bog. Inside, glowing green crystals covered the walls while underground rivers bubbled beneath stone bridges.
Eventually they discovered the missing Swamp Crystal lodged inside a giant root system.
Unfortunately…
so had Dragon Fire.
Again.
The crazy fire marble had entered the swamp looking for “haunted treasure” and accidentally caused half the cave system to collapse.
“I may have poked something explosive,” he admitted.
The cave trembled violently as the Swamp Golem approached from behind.
Mud waves surged through the tunnels.
Green Zomby bravely rolled forward toward the giant creature.
Instead of fighting it, he spoke calmly.
“The swamp is not your enemy,” he said.
The glowing creature slowly stopped roaring.
Then Green Zomby carefully returned the Swamp Crystal to its ancient stone altar beneath the cave.
WHOOSHHHH!
A soft green wave spread across the entire swamp.
The poisonous fog vanished.
The muddy water cleared.
The Swamp Golem slowly shrank back into peaceful moss and roots once more.
Outside, moonlight finally shone clearly across Shadow Bog Swamp again.
The villagers soon realised Green Zomby had never been dangerous at all.
In fact, he had secretly protected the swamp for years.
That evening the marbles of Bablock Hythe held a huge swamp celebration with glowing lanterns hanging from trees while Green Zomby told spooky stories beside the riverbank.
Bernard listened nervously while eating marshmallows.
“You know,” Bernard admitted quietly, “you’re actually much nicer than your face suggests.”
Green Zomby laughed loudly.
“I get that a lot.”
